Tips for Traveling In Style

Tips for Traveling In Style

Tis’ the season for traveling!

When waking up at 4am to catch a plane it is easy to have the urge to throw on a sweat suit and flip-flops and run out the door. Next thing you know you are at the airport surrounded but a mass amount of people, wondering what the hell you are wearing. The simplest way to avoid this situation is to plan your outfit the night before and have it waiting for you when you (most likely, literally) roll out of bed. The goal is having an easy outfit that is both cute and comfortable. Here are some simple tips to traveling in style:

1) Sneakers! Sneakers are my go-to airport shoe. They make any outfit look effortlessly trendy while being extremely comfortable. No matter what shoes you wear remember to make sure they are easy to take on and off, it will make going through airport security a breeze.

2) To keep warm grab your go-to bomber jacket or cardigan instead of a sweatshirt, before leaving for the airport. It is important to always remember to bring some kind of jacket or sweater. Especially with early morning flights when the air is cooler. You never know what the temperature of the airport or plane is going to be like, and nothing is worse than having to sit through a five-hour plane ride, freezing.

3) Throw on a pair of jogger pants, you will get the same coziness as sweatpants but look a million times more stylish. For more of a style approach, sport your favorite pair of boyfriend jeans or faux leather leggings and still get some comfort.

Put all three of these tips together and you will have the perfect travel outfit.

Behind the Scenes of “Sea Dreams”

Spreading the idea of girl empowerment we completed one of the two, summer style photo-shoots, this past weekend. The photo shoot titled “Sea Dreams” tells a story of a day at the beach, from lying in the sand to walking around the small town shops. We set up location at a quintet beach along the Chesapeake Bay’s salty water, and began putting the vision into action. Inspired by a blend of modern and bohemian style we mixed metallic and floral prints to create a simple style inspiration look book for the summer.

Taking it back to the beginning, after we came up with the plan to have two summer style photo shoots, we set the date for the “Sea Dreams” shoot, Friday May 20, 2016. In the short time leading up to the shoot, co creative director of this photo shoot and stylist, Jasmine James and I brainstormed ideas, formed a staff, and searched through thrift stores to find pieces that fit the look we were going for.

On the cool Friday morning of May 20th, we set up on the empty beach and began shooting. Our small college student staff worked effortlessly well together, simultaneously having the same visions, as if we were all working on one brainwave. Model, Kaylee Miller, was a natural in front of the camera, making the entire shoot a breeze. Behind the camera, photographer, Emily Barnes was capturing all the right angles, and getting each look exactly how we envisioned them. FTLOS Fashion Editor, Jasmine James and I worked together to direct and style to the photo shoot through out the day.

With music playing in the background and seventy-degree weather, the day could not have been better. The official “Sea Dreams” photo shoot pictures are expected to be released next week. Part two of our summer inspiration photo shoots, “Into the wild”, is in process and expected to take place in the near future.

Girl empowerment is such an important subject to talk about, especially in today’s society, where women are still continuing to fight for gender equality, in and out of the workforce. Women should not feel they are being treated of lesser value when compared to a man. Women should not have to worry about being judged, or sexualized, in any way, especially about her body. Women should be treated equally. Women should be aloud to wear whatever they wish without the being seen as simply a mans viewing pleasure. We want to embrace women empowerment and embrace the women’s body.

With our all female staff for the “Sea Dreams” shoots, we are showing what we as women can do and showing we can do it without the help from a man. Women as just as capable of doing exactly what men can do, and can even do it better.
